Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

As I said before, I am very excited to be running the Charlevoix Elementary School Media Center. I adore my fourth grade students from last year, but now I get to see all of the kids in the school again, including them! I get to use technology to expand everyone's love of books and reading, a love they already have thanks to Mrs. Culver. Before retiring last spring, Mrs. Culver was a media specialist in education for 34 years and the past 13 were spent at Charlevoix Elementary. She left behind a beautiful library, an amazing collection of books, and a love of reading in all of our hearts. Any and all of my success will be due to her vision and inspiration. You can still follow her blog Librarian's Quest at

Welcome to LibraryTech!

New year, new position, new blog! I am very excited to be running the Media Center at Charlevoix Elementary School. I will be using my past experience at McLean and Eakin Booksellers to maintain the library and help students pick out great books to read. I also hope to use my 13 years as a computer teacher to fulfill the Michigan Educational Technology Standards for grades K-5. Lessons will center around books, authors, and informational skills. I tried to think of a name for my class that didn't make it seem to be just about books or just about computers but both, and I came up with LibraryTech! I am also excited about the background image for this blog. While I was a computer teacher, my blog had a very "techie" background. Last year I had a wonderful time as a fourth grade teacher and our class blog had a background of books. This background has books and technology, but so much more. After all, books and the Internet can teach us about everything!
